• Proper home care: Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing every day, and using a quality dental rinse will prevent a lot of dental problems from getting out of hand. It’s also important to eat a balanced diet and limit sugar consumption.
• Regular visits to your dentist: Early detection can reverse many dental issues and correct them before they become detrimental to your health. Your dentist will recognise any developing problems, such as tooth decay and gingivitis, and treat them before they become extensive.
• Fluoride treatments: Fluoride prevents tooth decay and prevents bacteria from creating acids that destroy healthy tooth enamel. It can also restore damaged tooth surfaces by re-mineralising them.
• X-rays: Dental X-rays enable your dentist to assess the state of your teeth and spot any diseases or issues that are difficult to detect visually. These problems include gum infections, jaw bone deterioration, and abscessed wisdom teeth. Early treatment of these conditions tends to be less expensive than later damage control.
• Dental sealants: Applied to permanent molars, these slim plastic coatings protect the tooth against the abrasions that can cause tooth decay.

If you smoke, giving up cigarettes is another good prevention measure. Smoking has a detrimental effect on good oral health because it can lead to:
